About Us

Refugee Youth Project became a UK registered charity in April 2005.

Refugee Youth Project was founded in 2004 by Roz Evans, Rachel Yarrow and Kathy Brook. The three founders took part in Unipal’s (A Universities’ Trust for Educational Exchange with Palestinians) Summer 2004 project, teaching English to Palestinian students in Southern Lebanon. Whilst volunteering for Unipal, Roz Evans and Rachel Yarrow ran a pilot children’s activity project with The National Association for Vocational Training and Social Service (NAVTSS) in Al Bass refugee camp.

In Summer 2005, Refugee Youth Project partnered with local organisations to run a four-week summer activity project for 66 children and young people in the Al-Bass refugee camp in Tyre, Southern Lebanon. Through our local partners we are continuing to provide activities for young people living in these very difficult circumstances, exacerbated by the current conflict and political instability in the region.

In October 2005 Refugee Youth Project began running educational and recreational activities for refugee and asylum seeking young people in partnership with Whitefield school in the London Borough of Barnet. The project is managed by a full time Development Worker who coordinates after school and weekend and holiday activities including a four-week Summer Project. We are now also developing a peer-mentoring project in Barnet from September 2006.
